The Crow's Nest - January 26, 2016

Hello from sunny Arizona!  We have been enjoying sunshine along with moderate temperatures for the last month.  It is enjoyable to get away for a little while, but home is just around the corner as we leave this weekend.  We only stay away for a month as we just cannot miss too many UND hockey games!  Thankfully while we were down here in Phoenix we were able to get the games via our laptop.

I need to get Chuck home and out of Phoenix.  I now refer to him as “Sir Orange Outlaw”!  He comes by that name with no reservations on my part.  I don’t know if it is old age, Arizona mentality or what, but he and about ¾ of the drivers around here insist on going through every orange light possible.  I am sure Chuck has gone through at least 337 amber circles.  As I mentioned a bit ago, he is not the only driver to do this.  I have learned to wait, wait and wait at every crosswalk before starting my trek across the street.  There are too many wayward “orange outlaws” in high powered  vehicles ready to challenge the stoplights.

The weather has been so nice here.  It has been a bit cool according to the local weather people; but, I think the temperatures have been perfect.  It has gotten into the upper 60’s each day and sometimes reaching into the lower 70’s.  It has been grand weather for hiking daily around Phoenix and Scottsdale.  We have discovered a walking path up one of the mountains that we can enjoy (?) every morning.

I don’t know exactly what has been going on around the Edinburg area this past month except for a painting party called “Creatively Uncorked” that was held at the Edinburg Community Center.  From the pictures I have seen, it seems like there was quite a crowd at the event.  I am sure the artistic ability of everyone there was brought to the forefront with the canvasses they painted.

I heard through the rumor mill that the “Table of Knowledge” moved their meeting place over to Bob Halldorson’s Quonset for their coffee gatherings.  Chuck talked with Harold Flom, who is in Arkansas for the winter.  Harold had spoken with LeRoy Pederson who told him how the group had moved temporarily as Cenex is doing remodeling.  Goodness sakes, this surely is headline news for everyone!  That “Table of Knowledge” group is almost a sacred gathering of all who have lots to discuss, whether it be local or national.  I am curious to find out if they have moved back to Cenex yet.

A belated 80th happy birthday to Janice Loftus.  Her birthday was a couple of days ago.  Bill and Janice now live in Apache Junction, Arizona.

There are lots of snowbirds still down south, but we are ready to head home.  It is fun to go away, but it is almost more fun to get back to our regular routine.  I hope this finds everyone happy and healthy and we will talk later.
